Contribute to Whiskybase: Help Build the World’s Whisky Database

Whiskybase is built by people who care deeply about whisky and about sharing accurate, verifiable information. Every bottle detail, photo, and distillery profile exists because enthusiasts took the time to contribute what they know and confirm using reliable sources.

Today, Whiskybase has grown into one of the largest whisky databases in the world, with over 290,000 whiskies, 2,700+ distilleries, and more than 3 million ratings contributed by a global community of over 280,000 members. This scale is only possible because contributors continuously add and refine information.

You don’t need to be an expert to contribute. If you have trustworthy information and a Whiskybase account, you can already make a meaningful impact. Adding a bottle, uploading a photo, or improving an existing listing all help strengthen the quality and reliability of the database.

Getting Started and Making Your First Contribution

Once you have a free Whiskybase account, you can begin contributing right away by adding bottles, updating entries, uploading photos to bottle pages, adding distilleriesadding bottlers, or adding any other whisky related establishment such as a bar or a hotel in the explore page

When contributing, always rely on verifiable sources such as bottle labels, packaging, official websites, or trusted retailers. Assumptions and guesses should be avoided to maintain accuracy.

When adding a new bottle, always search first to ensure it is not already listed. Carefully match details like ABV, vintage, cask type, and bottler before submitting through the “Submit a bottleform.

If a bottle already exists but contains incomplete or incorrect information, use the “Add / update info” option to improve details such as cask numbers, bottling dates, packaging notes, or barcode data.

Photo Submissions

High-quality photos help verify bottle details and improve the experience for all users. You can upload full bottle images, label close-ups, and packaging photos using the “Send a photo” link. Make sure images are clear, well lit, and properly cropped.

For example, here you can see a member-submitted photo of the Islay Trilogy 1969 MM.

Adding Places

Beyond bottles, Whiskybase members also add or contribute information about distilleries, bottlers, bars, retailers, restaurants, whisky clubs, hotels, tastings, and exhibitions.

These can be added from the Contribute tab in the top menu or the Explore page on Whiskybase.

Additional Contributions

Shop listings (Shoplinks) appear on bottle pages when a whisky is available for purchase. These must link directly to the product page on an official retailer’s website.

Marketplace links such as Amazon or eBay are not accepted, and members can help by reporting outdated or incorrect listings.

You can read more about Shoplinks in the following article from the Knowledge Center.

Review Process and Community Recognition

Every submission is reviewed by Whiskybase moderators to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with reliable sources. Once approved, your contribution becomes part of the database, and you will receive a notification.

Approved contributions earn points, which increase your membership level over time. Members progress from Junior Member to advanced levels such as Senior Expert and Connoisseur, reflecting their activity and reputation within the community.
